Archie Matthews signs on loan

City swoop to sign goalkeeper Archie Matthews on loan from Birmingham City, subject to FA clearance.

The Birmingham stopper started his career at Swindon Town academy where he became a scholar in 2017. Matthews spent much of the following months out on loan at AFC Totton, Thatcham Town and Melksham Town in Southern League Division One.

Archie signed for Championship club Birmingham City on 9 August 2021 on a one-year contract. Most recently Archie spent a month on loan at National League South club Bath City.

“We are delighted to welcome Archie to the club, we hope his loan spell with us is a fruitful one it’s a position which obviously needed addressing due to the injuries Liam and Jake has suffered the past couple of weeks,” reflected Lee Mansell.

“The people who I have spoken to about Archie can’t speak highly enough of him as a goalkeeper and his character.”

“Archie has trained for the first time today and fitted in with the lads well and has got off to a great start and we look forward to seeing what he can do in a Gloucester City shirt this next month.”

In other City news, Dylan Barkers’ month loan spell has now been extended until the end of the season.
