Here at Gloucester City AFC media, we caught up with our Assistant Manager Marc McGregor to give an update on injured players, our away form this season and our upcoming run of fixtures.
Ed Williams went off injured, it looked like a sore one, How's he doing?
Yeah, it was a bit of a late tackle on him, but he has recovered quite well. He's gone for a scan today so we're waiting for the results of the scan and then we can look to get him back. Hopefully, he may be involved in the next 10 days.
Harry Burns, any update on his injury?
Burnsy wasn't in on Tuesday as he was away, but yes we are still looking at a similiar time frame as we were before, two to three weeks from now at best, but more likely to be mid to end of February for H.
Frome were a tough side to break down in the reverse fixture, what do you expect from them on Saturday?
Well, in recent games they're right up there in the form guide, So Danny's done a brilliant job of recruiting a few different players, and obviously yesterday was a really good result for them away at Totton so, we know they're a different outfit for when we played them at home.
The conditions will be different going from an astro to a grass pitch, so we're going to have to maybe play a different style. But we're still going to look to try and play our game, because that's where we are and that's what's got us up to third in the league, but it's going to be a really difficult fixture that's for sure.
They are obviously down the bottom end of the table for a reason, do you expect them to put up a proper fight to try and get themselves out of the relegation fight?
Look Danny Greaves is a top manager and will always have a side that works hard for him and they never will give up and we saw that at home they were really difficult to break down.
They were organized and that's what they're gonna be, exactly the same on Saturday. They are down there for a reason, but they are stringing results together, and we saw exactly the same with Plymouth Parkway.
Plymouth are a different type of team to them, but they believed in the way they were playing, and they've got themselves out of that trouble, and that's exactly what Frome are looking to try and do, and they're going to try and do it against us.
When you come down from the league above, and you are expected to perform, every game you play is a tough game. We've recognised that and that's where at times we've let ourselves down where we've not seen out the games where we should have gone on and taken three points we've picked up a point.
So we've got to put that right as a group and hopefully that'll be starting on Saturday where we're going to go there and win. We're going to be difficult to beat, but we're also going to be the team that's going to be on the front foot, because we have to be. That's the way that we have to play, and we'll be working on that on Thursday.
There is no hiding that the away form has not been great this season, is that something the coaching staff is looking to get a hold on and turn around?
Yes 100%. Some of the fixtures that we've been away from home, we've been minutes away from winning. So, a tough place to go to was Wimborne, we deserved to come away from there with three points and we didn't. Another place, Merthyr, is probably the toughest place to go and we should have taken three points there with two one on ones and we were minutes away from winning that game. So as much as we do want the win just to get that monkey off our back, we've shown some good performances away from home but we just need to get the three points and we have got a great opportunity these next two games to get the away form back on track.
Saturday, it was nice to have the shoe on the other foot where we picked up the points in the last couple of minutes. So, it's a game on paper that people think we should win, but I think everybody in this league or knows this league knows that this is going to be a tough fixture. But it's one that if we want to continue to stay in that top three, we have to be winning
