Gloucester City is delighted to confirm the signing of experienced central defender Ben Nugent from Barnet after passing a medical yesterday.
Ben has signed until 2023, joining the likes of Matt McClure, Jack James, Kevin Dawson, Bernard Mensah and Tommy O’Sullivan.
The 27 year old began his career at Cardiff City where he won promotion to the Premier League in 2013, making 12 appearances during Cardiff’s EFL Championship-winning season. The 6’5” defender then went on to amass a further 173 EFL appearances with lengthy spells at Crewe, Gillingham and Stevenage before joining Barnet in the National League.
Hear what Ben had to say about joining City:
“This is a position which needed filling with an experienced player. Ben’s a left -sided centre half and dominant in the air which is what we’re lacking. He brings quality and experience and he believes in the process we are trying to put in place to help the club progress. He will massively benefit the group and the fresh blood will hopefully galvanise us. Ben will give us physical presence at both ends of the pitch and he’ll mix well with the lads so we hope he can hit the ground running. I’d like to thank Barnet for their assistance with making this happen.” - Lee Mansell
Ben is fit and available for Lee Mansell’s first home game in charge of City against Bradford Park Avenue this Saturday, 3pm. Tickets are available via www.GloucesterSport.com/tickets.
