City can confirm that versatile defensive player Pablo Martinez has joined the club on a month’s loan from Bristol Rovers, subject to FA Clearance.
The young defender has a strong football education having come through the youth set-up at Reading and West Brom, who he joined at 16 before joining Rovers in 2020. Shortly after his signing, Martinez joined Oxford City on loan for a three-month spell. He made his debut for the Gas on 27 March when he played a full 90 against Sunderland.
Martinez has also represented Wales at under 16 to the under 19 level.
“Pablo is a versatile player I know from my time at Bristol. He can play at centre-half, full-back or in defensive centre-mid so he gives us some options across the board defensively” commented gaffer Lee Mansell.
“We’ve had a fair few injuries and suspensions in those positions so it gives us some cover in those areas.”
“He has some real quality to his game and he’ll be a great addition to our group. He trained with us yesterday for the first time and he’s settling in well. We expect him to be in the squad with us this Saturday.”
City travel to Curzon Ashton this Saturday unbeaten in the last four.
