MATCH PREVIEW- Gloucester City vs Basingstoke Town

Gloucester City are looking to return to winning ways after defeat in the FA Trophy as they play host to playoff challengers Basingstoke Town at the TigerTurf Stadium.

After being defeated last time out at home in the Trophy at home to Coleshill Town after a poor display, eyes turn back to the League where City will be looking to keep their 100% home record going.

Currently City have won all six of their matches at the TigerTurf in the League despite defeats at home in the cup competitions to Gosport Borough and Coleshill respectively.

Their run of seven games unbeaten was ended in all competitions after the defeat last Saturday, but the Tigers are still unbeaten in their last nine in the league, and will be hoping to make it a magic 10 against a Basingstoke side who have proven hard to beat in the league.

The 'Stoke currently sit in 5th place in the Southern Premier Division South having lost just once in 13 games played this season, a home defeat to Taunton.

Draws have been more of a problem for the side who finished 12th in the table last season, as they have drawn seven of their fixtures so far and won just the five times.

They remain unbeaten in their matches away from Hampshire having won two and drawn four of their away fixtures so far this season, proven the sturdiness that will stand them in good stead to make a playoff charge.

Despite sitting the eight points behind their hosts, they have only scored one less than their hosts, and conceded two more showing the fine margins in the Southern Premier Division South and how City have been clinical when they have needed to.

After a strong start to the season winning their first three games, their form has been patchier.

After the winning record to start the season the 'Stokes have since gone on a streak of four consecutive draws and now have won just two of their last six games in the League and failed to win their last three matches.

They also got knocked out of the FA Cup first qualifying round, to City's next away trip having gone down 3-1 to Sholing Town, and lost to Taunton in the FA Trophy in the third qualifying round

A win for City can keep them two clear at the top, with title rivals Merthyr Town away to resergent Plymouth Parkway, while AFC Totton also travel away to bottom side Marlow as the title race looks to be a three way battle.

To back the boys and ensure we get back to winning ways make sure you get your tickets and see if we can make it seven from seven in the League here at the TigerTurf.
