Match Report | City 5-0 Winchester

City demolished Winchester with a comprehensive victory at the TigerTurf Stadium.

Mike Cook made one change to the line up from the midweek win at Gosport, with Harry Emmett getting the nod at left back. Stan Anaebonam returned to the squad along with Joe Hanks to complete the bench.

From the first whistle the Tigers were in control and didn’t let up, and it wasn’t long before Harry Pinchard gave city the lead with a rasping low shot from outside the box in the eighth minute.

From then on it was all city, with Brandon Smalley forcing fingertip saves from Cairney who kept his team in the game in the early stages of the first half. However the link up play from the front four was just too much and the second came on 26 minutes when Kieron Phillips finished from close range after Elis Watts’ shot hit the bar.

The third followed shortly after and it was Brandon Smalley’s turn to get a piece of the action, finishing off a familiar corner routine from six yards.

It could and should have been four before halftime  but for the linesman’s flag denying Smalley a second.

It was more of the same in the second half, with some great work by Pinchard and Watts resulting in an own goal by the visitors.

Winchester’s misery was compounded by a series of substitutions, with Grubb, Anaebonham, Crosbie and Hanks taking to the field. It was Grubb who completed the rout in injury time, volleying his own flick up into the top corner.

The Tigers left the field to rapturous applause and unbeaten in eleven.

Next match at home is Walton & Hersham on 1st March, tickets on sale now

An anonymous Geometry Dash player makes me more passionate about football than ever. But the dream of one day standing on the field and burning myself out is what I use as motivation to practice.
