MATCH REPORT- Gloucester City 2-0 Frome Town

Gloucester City consolidated their spot at the top of the Southern Premier League South table after goals in each half helped defeat lowly Frome Town for their sixth consecutive home victory.

The Tigers took the confidence that reaching the summit brought to them and instantly showed their superiority in the match.

A number of chances were spurred as Dayle Grubb put in a teasing cross for City's double digit man Joe Hanks but he misjudged the flight of the ball and headed over the bar.

Livewire King Baidoo left the defence for dead 20 minutes in and beat everyone including the keeper but his strike hit the bottom right hand corner before bouncing out and the Robins managed to clear their lines.

It was becoming a frustrating half for City as they were not able to make their superiority count but they would finally get their goal and the dose of luck that they needed in this match.

Jadyn Crosbie playing his second match for the club since joining on loan from Torquay last week netted the opener for City.

He managed to get a danging foot onto a through ball from Grubb that the keeper Kyle Phillips managed to save but he was there to tap in the rebound, crashing the ball into the goal and himself into the post before the oncoming Frome defence could steer it away from danger.

This meant that City had the lead at the interval with Crosbie scoring the first non Hanksy goal in four games.

The Robins burst into life in the secod half with them dominating proceedings sd erll winning free kicks in dangerous positions with Jared Thompson on hand to save a Joe O'Loughlin strike after good play from the side who have yet to win since the opening day of the league campaign.

That was the best that it got for Frome, and City took the game away from the Robins by getting a second at the perfect time.

Great running by Ed Williams down the left hand side saw the ball pulled back to King Baidoo but he couldn't control it so laid it off to Grubb who unleashed a venemous strike into the top corner.

The strike took a slight deflection off the Frome players but it was going in regardless and left the Tigers comfortable.

The game petered out after that with a welcome return to the side for Ciaran Phillips coming on for Baidoo, while Harry Burns replaced Grubb.

Grubb was awarded Man of the Match after a fine display in the City midfield pulling the strings and putting the glos on a controlled display that ensured that Gloucester won their first match by more than a goal in the 2024/25 season.

This result leaves City consolidated at the top of the table as they go away to the South Coast on Saturday to face current second place side AFC Totton after they defeated Plymouth Parkway, while third placed side Merthyr Town game against Taunton Town was postponed due to Taunton's FA Cup commitments meaning they have a game in hamd.
