MATCH REPORT- Gloucester City 2-2 Wimborne Town (8-7 on penalties)

Gloucester City progressed to the FA Trophy proper after defeating Wimborne Town after a tense penalty shoot out at the TigerTurf Stadium.

After a promising start by the Tigers, the Dorset based side took a lead on the 10th minute after their captain Sam Jackson crossed in for their number nine Will Fletcher who's header went over the line.

The boys in yellow and red were dominating despite the away side taking the lead although an injury to Riley McGregor caused enough concern for him to be subbed off just after half way through the first half.

It was his substitute King Baidoo who would make the difference and it was a crowning moment for the forward who equalised just seven minutes after coming on.

Dayle Grubbs'corner was expertly met by the King who headed home from just six yards out.

Gloucester were turning on the screw and were having the better of the proceedings heading into the interval

Just five minutes after the break Gloucester made their first half domination count as Dayle Grubb turned from provider to scorer.

Grubbs calmly tucked away his finish sliding home from inside the area into the bottom left corner.

After the equaliser, Wimborne put the pressure on and were the better side for the rest of the half.

This was then compounded after just ten minutes from time Dan Ball was awarded a harsh red card on Jez Bedford after a tackle that left the Magpies purring for the remainder of the match.

Three minutes after the red card, Wimborne made their numerical advantage count as Cam Munn netted after hitting a striker after Harry Baker tangled with the Tigers defenders.

Gloucester held out though for the remainder of the game which would lead to an iconic penalty shoo out to see who would progress to the third round of the FA Trophy.

After four succesful spot kits, Ed Williams strike cannoned off the left hand post giving Town the advantage in the shootout.

They could not capatalise however and Harry Morgan's penalty was well saved by Jared Thompson.

11 successive penalties were converted including a stylishly cool penalty by keeper Thompson to leave the game tense at 8-7.

Harvey Wright wildly blazed over the stadium his resulting spot kick and ensured that City would win the match, just like they did against Town six weeks prior in the Souther Premier.
