One City: Youngsters gaining experience

Gloucester City AFC have agreed to the loan of five youth players for a minimum of two league games with Wantage FC of the Southern League. Four of which are currently in the Gloucester City AFC U19’s Elite Academy program in partnership with St Peters High School RC.

Alex Avenell, Jurek Marszalek, Luke Sloane, Callum Blackford and Rio Nicks have all been in and around the first team this season and is being given the opportunity to gain some valuable experience in a very competitive league.

U19’s Elite Academy Manager, Chris Hill said:

“Since joining the St Peters program the four lads have developed and progressed really well, earning themselves chances to train with the first team. This is a great opportunity to represent Gloucester City AFC by going on loan to Wantage FC allowing them to gain match experience in a very competitive league. This is another step on their development journey as the club looks to develop the best local young talented footballers and offer them a pathway to the first team. Having played Saturday Alex, Luke and Jurek have made good early impressions with all five likely to feature in their second game on Tuesday. I’m proud of their displays and they way they are representing this club.”

Gloucester City AFC Manager, Lee Mansell said:

“We have had some good feedback on the lads which is great to see. These are the opportunities we want to create for our young players in order to get them an overall experience at what it takes to make it at this level. We can open doors for them but ultimately they have to walk through them and take every opportunity they can with both hands.”
