OPPOSITION NOTES- Frome Town

The great escape is on for Frome Town who are one of the Southern Premier South's form sides despite sitting seven points off safety as they prepare to take on Gloucester City on Saturday.

Four wins from their last six games, as well as a point away to high flyers Totton on Tuesday night has seen the Robins claw back ground in the relegation dogfight and given them geniune optimism of staying in the divison having been promoted from Southern League Division One in 2023/24.

Only Dorchester Town have picked up more points in the last five games than Frome, while on a 10 game scale Frome are still on playoff form with 14 points from their last 10 matches.

Having played just 10 matches at their home ground Badgers Hill, less than any other side in the division the Somerset based side will be looking to make use of their extra home fixtures when they host City on Saturday.

Their last two home results have been a 3-0 hammering of Swindon Supermarine and a 5-0 demolition of Plymouth Parkway who were buoyed by their own 6-0 win against the Tigers just three days prior at the end of December.

Before that Frome who won the Southern League Division One playoff final against Bristol Manor Farm 3-1 had failed to win any of their homes with two draws and six defeats in their stadium.

Despite their incredible run of results that has seen them pick up 13 of their 21 points in their a six game blitz over December and into the new year, Frome Town are still seven points from safety and the hunters in the relegation battle for a reason.

Prior to the run of form they had picked up just eight points in 17 matches, under a point every other game which goes to highlight the incredible turnaround this season under boss Danny Greaves who will celebrate his seventh year anniversary in charge in May.

Despite 13 goals coming in those last six matches, Frome are barely ticking over one goal a game with 26 goals in 23 matches which is just one more than the joint lowest scorers in the table Poole Town and Tiverton Town.

With the caveat that Frome have not played as many fixtures as the sides around them having played the joint least in the league alongside Wimborne on 23 games, Frome do bolster a healthy defensive record for the relegation scrap with only Hungerford in the bottom eight sides conceding less than the Robins 40 so far.

Frome's top scorer in the league James Ollis has bagged five times so far this season, while Archie Ferris a recruit from Taunton Town at the end of October sits second in the scoring charts for the hosts having scored four himself this season.

In the previous fixture in October, City picked up the three points on a cold Tuesday evening after Jadyn Crosbie bagged his first goal for the Tigers before Dayle Grubb added the gloss to the match in the second half after a powerful strike securing the three points in a well deserved Player of the Match performance.

While languishing in the relegation mire and still seven points away from safety, Frome have proven to be stiff opposition in the past two months with their incredible run of form the lowly position in the league table cannot be an indicator for the team that Gloucester will face at Badgers Hill.

With the second best form in the division and the best goal difference in the league in that period, Frome will pose a sizable threat as they look to achieve their own ambitions of making stuff they stay up and consolidate in the Southern Premier Divison.
