Preview | Alfreton (A)

By Rowan Lee

Gloucester City travel to the Impact Arena today where they face promotion chasing Alfreton Town who currently sit seventh in the Vanarama National League North. (KO 3pm)

City go into the game in good spirits following an electrifying 3-2 victory over Southport last Saturday. A game which saw Matt McClure and Kieran Phillips both get on the scoreboard for City.

However, with just one point separating the two sides heading into this one, Steven King’s men know it will be a tough battle which they must aim to conquer.

Here are the statistics regarding City’s 12th league game of this current season:

Form:

As previously mentioned, City head into this clash on the back of a tenacious second half performance against Southport last week, where they found themselves on the right end of a 3-2 comeback thanks to Kieran Phillips’ 88th minute winner.

Alfreton on the other hand go into this game following a 2-2 draw at home to Peterborough Sports and a 2-1 win away at Leamington.

All three points for City is imperative in their quest to reach the playoff places this season. City will be hoping Kieran Phillips is firing on all cylinders again after an impressive last game. Also City’s talisman Matt McClure will be looking to add to his current tally of seven league goals so far in the 22/23 campaign.

Key Players:

City’s defence will be more than aware of Alfreton’s current top goal scorer this season in midfielder Bailey Hobson who has bagged five goals so far. The hosts also have former Cheltenham Town loanee Tom Denton who has already netted three goals this campaign.
