PREVIEW:FA Trophy Third Qualifying Round- Gloucester City vs Wimborne Town

City host Wimborne Town for the second time so far this season after defeating The Magpies 1-0 in the league in August.

This time however the divisional rivals will battle it out to reach the FA Trophy proper with the Tigers aiming to continue an impressive start to the season and get another win at the Tiger Turf Stadium.

A Brandon Smalley cracker was enough to seperate the two teams on the third matchday of the season but squad rotation will likely be in place. With Glos aiming for a promotion back up to the regional National Leagues, and the Dorset based newly promoted Wimborne will be hoping to remain stable in the middle of the table having played a game more than the Tigers.

Plenty of changes could be afoot with fringe players ready to step up and take their chances to impress the boss Mike Cook and make a push to be in his league squad as the Southern Premier begins to take shape.

Town have struggled on their travels failing to win any matches including 4-0 and 6-0 defeats in their last two away matches against Gloucester's promotion rivals AFC Totton and Merthyr Town, their most recent match.

However, they did beat fellow Southern Premier side Tiverton Town away from home by three goals to nil in the FA Cup qualifying rounds before being knocked out by Weston Super-Mare.

The Magpies have also scored just once in their last five games in all competitions but having ran the Tigers close in the league fixture there can be no guarantee of a result.

City have won five of their six matches at home so far this season and will be hoping to continue that streak as their aim to make into the Trophy and carry on the push towards a successful seasons in alll competitions across the board in 2024/25

Tickets are still available to support the boys as they aim to get another win and keep the confidence flowing into a hectic October schedule with home fixtures against Havant and Waterlooville, Frome Town and visits to AFC Totton and Winchester City still to come.
